Home Improvement Contractors Are Looking Online To Save Money

Contractors are looking for every possible avenue to save money in this economy, and many of them have found that they can find substantial saving by shopping for building materials online.

With the housing market deeply depressed and residential construction spending at all time lows, home improvement contractors are looking for new ways to save money.

Aaron MeGee is the marketing manager for Fresh Air Manufacturing Company (FAMCO) and due to contractor demand, has recently revamped the company website to include a shopping cart system that allows contractors to purchase HVAC dampers and vents directly from the manufacturer at deep discounts.

FAMCO, based out of Meridian Idaho, is the one of the Northwest’s largest manufacturers of HVAC dampers and other air ventilation products.

“Contractors are looking for every possible avenue to save money in this economy, and many of them have found that they can find substantial saving by shopping for building materials online. We can still offer volume discounts to resellers, but now individual contractors can buy direct and also save money” said MeGee.

Contractors are no longer going through the same channels to get supplies and materials as they used to before the housing market crashed.

“New projects are few and far between, so when I get the opportunity to bid on a project, I have to make sure it is very competitive. Homeowners know they have leverage, and now expect more for less, so I’ve got to do everything I can do to keep costs down, and still make money” Says Ed Lacey, a siding and roofing contractor located in Boise ID.

Lacey continued to explain that in February he saved over 50% by shopping online for his HVAC dampers ( http://www.famcomfg.com ), roof vents, and flashings through Famco’s new website.

The National Association of Home Builders said that home builders’ sentiment slipped in April, and rated sales conditions now and in the next six months as unfavorable. So even though there have been signs that a recovery in the housing market may be in the horizon, there is a good chance that the slump will continue on into next year, but it’s not all bad news.

“We’ve been very excited to see our sales have increase since our new website launch, we’re staying busy, and at the same time saving contractors and homeowners money. There are still projects happening and people spending money for home improvement” Said Aaron MeGee of Famco.
