Dubai, UAE- August 23, 2010 - A major dip in rents has prompted more than a one third of tenants across the UAE to switch homes last year, with several opting furnished residential rentals in Dubai at prime locations, said a survey report. However even this year surveys revealed that with rents dipping, Dubai has again turned out to be the preferred destination for those planning to shift residences from Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
According to the online survey, there are 770 adults over the age of 18 and the numbers are still expected to increase of the UAE residents who are grabbing the current opportunity of low rentals and upgrading their accommodation. It has been observed that about 40percent of the residents shifted from single bedroom units to double bedrooms and 46percent of those which lived in double bedrooms last year, now live in three bedrooms. According to research, Dubai is better-placed when it comes to availability of residential and commercial rentals, followed by Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. Besides, Dubai is seen to have better value for money, surpassing Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, respectively. Findings indicate that migration is geared towards Dubai, particularly from Sharjah and Abu Dhabi. Among the current population in Dubai, 18percent have recently moved in from Sharjah and 16percent residents from Abu Dhabi. Rentals in Dubai have decreased considerably seeing more tenants from neighboring cities entering Dubai. Moreover, this fall in rents also attract huge masses across the globe compelling them to invest in rental properties in Dubai.
