Canton, MA, June 21, 2011 -- Humboldt Storage and Moving, greater Boston’s oldest moving company, agent of United Van Lines and experts in stress-free moving has moved countless boxes in the 100 plus years of operation. One box they do recommend they don’t move and that families keep by their side is the moving day box.
A moving day box is one that a family keeps with them at all times during the actual move. It contains items in the event the move gets delayed, the family gets stranded or the family ends up in a hotel room unexpectedly. It also contains items that you may need once you get to the new home that you’ll need to put your hands on quickly.

For the unexpected overnight stay, packing soap, toiletries, towels and snacks are a good idea. In an emergency, having a first aid kit and other emergency items such as road flares should be packed in that moving day box.
A family might also want to pack a number of items that they’ll need once they arrive at their new home such as paper plates and cups, coffee and powdered milk and sugar, snacks and canned goods with a can opener and a tool kit.
Lastly, make sure to pack all personal items that might be hard or impossible to replace. Although your movers are professionals, things still do happen. Items such as passports, deeds, bonds, prescription medicine and family photo albums fall under this category. In a worst case scenario moving companies pay claims on actual value not sentimental so don’t take any chances with those special items that can’t be replaced.
“As much as the whole team including the family tries to have a 100 percent, trouble-free move, there are some cases where they will be bumps in the road,” states James Sullivan, president of Boston moving company Humboldt Storage and Moving. “Planning ahead in all phases of the move, and planning for unexpected issues that arise will help ease an already stressful situation.”
