The MBA entrance exam season 2011-12 has been flagged off with the announcement of IIFT, SNAP, NMAT entrance exams. The IIFT 2011 exam will be held on Sunday, November 27, 2011. There are hardly four months left for the test. Though the basic sections of the exam are similar to exams like CAT, XAT, FMS etc. but it is not exactly the same and needs a special preparation and strategy.
For example, IIFT has a section on General Awareness which is not there in CAT, XAT or FMS. The other sections of the exam are Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation, Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning & Decision Making.
To help you prepare for the exam, MBAUniverse.com held a live chat with IIFT exam topper andIIFT Delhi student Sriram R. We bring to you today the excerpts from the Live Expert Chat:
Parth Bipinkumar: I am preparing for CAT 2011 seriously including other exams like IIFT, XAT, FMS. My question is you also have attempted these exams & what is your strategy to tackle the same?
A. Yes, I also attempted CAT and XAT. The core aspects of your preparation remain the same. You just need to modify your preparation according to different exams. For e.g, IIFT also has a GK section. So you need to be aware about the current happenings.
Urvi Urvashi: How many minimum questions will you suggest that should be solved in the paper? What should be the attempting strategy?|
A. Keep no such benchmarks for the number of questions for the paper. Go about solving it as it comes because the difficulty level varies from year to year.
Kruthika: I want to know if IIFT has sectional cut offs? They do not mention anything about this in the paper. Also, I would like to know about IIFT-Kolkata campus. How is it?
A. If the cut-off is mentioned in the paper, it is there. If it is not mentioned, then there are no sectional cut-offs. The Kolkata campus also has same curriculum and placements as Delhi.
Shreepal: What would be the difficulty level of GK? Please suggest any material for GK?
A. Read Newspapers regularly. Difficulty level varies from easy to moderate. Just being aware and reading about general stuff, business, politics etc would suffice.
Sanjana: What should be the strategy during the exam?
A. Try to remain calm yet focused during the time of exams. Make sure you are at your best when it comes for those crucial hours during the exam.
Vidya: How does IIFT entrance exam's Quant and DI sections compare with CAT? What should be the ideal number of attempts in Quant?
A. Quant for IIFT is sometimes difficult as CAT. While DI/LR are almost similar in difficulty level. Keep no set targets for number of attempts.
Ronak: As I know GK has less weightage than Quant, how many questions are sufficient in GK?
A. Yes, GK has less weightage and in GK, either you know or you don’t know. You don’t have to spend much time in it. Attempt questions in GK which you are considerably confident of and that would suffice.
