Arts Month San Diego brings a diverse cross-section of arts and culture programs showcased throughout the month with participating galleries, artist-run initiatives, public art museums, performing arts events, and festivals.

ART SAN DIEGO Contemporary Art Fair

Over Labor Day Weekend San Diego will be home to the third edition of ART SAN DIEGO Contemporary Art Fair. More than 60 leading galleries from the USA, Canada, Europe, Latin America, and Asia will be taking part. Chosen by ART SAN DIEGO’s Curatorial Director Marcela Quiroz Luna, the galleries – which include numerous new participants – will be showing works by over 500 artists. In addition to the gallery booths, special features include curated exhibitions, contemporary furniture design, solo-artist exhibitions, video-based works, performances, art in public spaces, and a lounge designed by noted Architect Jennifer Luce.

We’re going out with a bang! It’s our spectacular, crowd-pleasing season finale: Tchaikovsky’s thunderous 1812 Overture complete with booming cannons over San Diego Bay. The Bridgepoint Education Summer Pops is San Diego Symphony's annual outdoor summer concert series. The concerts are performed on a stage we construct each year at Embarcadero Marina Park South, on San Diego Bay right behind the San Diego Convention Center.

Jennifer Steinkamp’s largest indoor projection to date features a panoramic field of moving flowers and trees inspired by her research into atomic energy and its effects on nature. This specially commissioned work by one of today’s most prominent, time-based digital video artists features seven synchronized projections onto three walls of the 4,500-square-foot gallery at the museum’s location in Downtown San Diego.

Giant Puppet Parade / Embarcadero
Space 4 Art and the San Diego Guild of Puppetry are presenting the inaugural ART FUN, a free Giant Puppet Parade. Kids are invited to come to the plaza in front of the Hilton Hotel for the puppet, mask-making and drumming sessions prior to the parade. They can march in the Puppet Parade on the Embarcadero with their creations and then participate in a picnic on the giant Community Blanket created by Alexander Jarman.

Coronado Art Walk 2011

The 2011 Coronado Art Walk will be held at the Coronado Ferry Landing from 10:00am till 5:00pm. The 2-day Coronado Art Walk is put on by the Coronado Historical Association and is an admission free, public event designed to foster creativity and appreciation for the wonders of art. Artists will be housed in tented booths along the entrance and on the grounds of the Ferry Landing.

Painting, hand crafted jewelry, photography, ceramics and other mediums will be featured. Artists have
been selected by a jury for their ability to express the vast and varied world of art in their particular art form. This exciting venue will include Interactive Art Activities to delight both children and adults.
