Essex, United Kingdom (8th September, 2011) – Artisan Galleries, one of the UK’s leading family-run art dealers, announces that British bovine artist, Caroline Shotton, will visit Artisan Fine Art in Kingston to coincide with the launch of her playful and humorous new collection of limited edition cow art entitled Hay Days.
Caroline Shotton has carved her career out of painting her cow art, and The Hay Days collection of limited edition boxed canvases looks set to put a smile on the face of Kingston; featuring in Artisan’s gallery from mid-September until Christmas or whilst stocks last.
A Central Saint Martins’ trained fine artist, Caroline Shotton has had an almost decade-long fascination with cows. Now the incorporation of real hay into her original art, and the very high reproduction quality of the limited edition canvases, brings a new playful warmth, depth and textured quality to her latest outstanding collection of signed limited edition prints.
Caroline Shotton says: “Hay is a playful medium and has proved a perfect one to work into my paintings of cows. The hay has brought something real from the fields to the canvas. I’ve sought to capture a sense of realism in movement – whether the cows are suddenly busting out from under a stack of hay or snuggled up in it.”
Hay Days retains the trademark Shotton textured and coloured backgrounds. There is also an added depth and richness to the colour and refined painting style as Shotton is now painting in oils.
Caroline explains that her fascination with cows, began quite by chance. “Whilst walking in the fields near my house I noticed a herd of cows just stood there, staring at me. They had a warmth and innocence in their eyes. It was then that I decided to paint a cow for my son’s nursery, to keep him company and watch over him while he was sleeping. Everyone quickly became enamoured with these loveable creatures, including my publishers Washington Green Fine Art…. and the rest, as they say, is history! I love painting cows to this day.”
Since signing a deal with the fine art publishers Washington Green, Shotton’s outstanding bovine
art achieved sales of 5,000 limited editions in the first two years alone and she has enjoyed several
solo tours including her critically acclaimed The Great Moosters – a cheeky Shotton twist on the
great masters. In 2007 Shotton was shortlisted as best ‘Up & Coming Published Artist’ in the
prestigious ‘Oscars’ for the art industry – the Fine Art Trade Guild Awards.
The five-strong range of limited edition box canvases in the brand new Hay Days collection each have an edition size of 195 and prices start from £650. Fans of Caroline Shotton’s work can meet her at Artisan Fine Art, 14-18 Fife Road, Kingston Upon Thames, on Saturday 24 September from 12-3pm.
