The Integrated Healthcare Association (IHA) has announced that Children’s Physicians Medical Group ( http://www.cpmgsandiego.com ) (CPMG) of San Diego has been awarded The Ronald P. Bangasser, MD, Memorial Award for Quality Improvement, for the San Diego region. The award was announced on September 22nd, 2011 at an awards ceremony held during the IHA’s 10th annual Pay for Performance stakeholder’s meeting.
Dr. Bangasser, for whom the award is named, was a family medicine physician and vice-chairman of the Board of Beaver Medical Group, as well as a regular contributor to quality improvement and pay for performance initiatives in California and throughout the United States. CPMG was selected based on quality improvement in four areas of performance: clinical quality, patient experience, information technology-enabled systems, and coordinated diabetes care.
This recognition serves to validate CPMG’s ongoing commitment to its patients and the community of the greater San Diego and southern Riverside counties. This is the second honor bestowed upon the CPMG family during the month of September. Earlier in the month, Dr. Jaime Friedman, a CPMG and CPCMG affiliated physician, was featured in a special edition of The East County Californian newspaper as the winner of the paper’s “Best Pediatrician” reader poll.
CPMG remains active in the community, sponsoring several organizations benefiting children, including the San Diego State University Aztec “Tickets for Kids” and "Ball Kids" programs and the youth recreational soccer league of the San Diego Soccer Club. The “Tickets for Kids” program provides free tickets to all home games of the SDSU football team to organizations like the Boys and Girls Club of San Diego, Big Brother/Big Sister of San Diego, and YMCA of San Diego. Sponsorship of the youth soccer league and the “Tickets for Kids” program are part of CPMG’s efforts to highlight the importance of physical fitness and activity in children. Statistically, children who become involved in youth athletics are more likely to graduate high school, go to college, and live a healthy lifestyle. CPMG hopes that its sponsorship of youth athletics will encourage children to become more active in their daily lives.
With over 50 affiliated offices throughout the greater San Diego and southern Riverside counties, CPMG serves over 70,000 member children with a team of over 400 pediatricians and specialists. As a close affiliate of Rady Children’s Hospital—San Diego, enrollees of CPMG are granted access to all Rady Children's Hospital services and facilities.
CPMG maintains an active presence on the web via Facebook ( http://www.facebook.com/cpmgsandiego ), YouTube ( http://www.youtube.com/user/CPMGSanDiego ), and Twitter, providing followersinformation relating to children’s health issues. Information covering topics from summer safety and bullying to flu symptoms and immunizations are available. Followers also have the opportunity to enter contests sponsored by CPMG. In the past, followers have won free memberships in the “Tickets for Kids” program and a Nintendo Wii.
