Arizona based auto repair and servicing company, Dessert Car Care has announced a free seminar on car care, for women, on the 12th of November. Aptly named ‘Knowledge is Power’, this seminar aims to help women get rid of their fears and uncertainties regarding vehicle maintenance. The seminar is being held at their Chandler branch.
Even in today's world of equality, some women remain a little uncomfortable with the still largely masculine world of the auto repair shop. Often feeling a little overwhelmed by the technical language used by mechanics, after all how many of really understand what goes on under the hood of our vehicles? There is still the urban myth that women will often get charged more than men, or will be persuaded to have unnecessary work done at greater expense.
The ‘Knowledge is Power’ seminar is aimed to empower women with basic understanding of vehicle repairs and service and help them navigate the auto repair shop confidently.
As more women own cars and are responsible for keeping them well maintained and serviced it's becoming more important that auto repair and servicing companies ensure that their female customers are made comfortable with the process. Women work and travel on their own while still having to take care of children and ensure their safety, so they need the confidence to choose and auto mechanic wisely.
“The ‘Knowledge is Power” seminar intends to help women with their negotiating skills, besides teaching them to maintain their car. Thus technical jargon thrown about by service engineers, on unassuming women drivers can be understood by them. They also get to participate in the decision making process” says the spokesperson for Dessert Car Care.

Statistics indicate that women are less likely to cause accidents and are hence required to pay less by insurance companies, but they are still perceived by a lot of men as the less capable drivers. This does sometimes mean that they can be treated less well by some auto repair shops. Seminars like these empower women with the skills and knowledge to get the repairs and servicing they need and no more.
