Waterfront Roasters, the specialty, small batch roaster of Empire Coffee Co. in Port Chester, NY is celebrating the launch of their new online store where anybody can have access to discount coffee beans, including Organic coffee beans.
Owner Bob Richter comments that “though Waterfront is relatively new in relation to Empire, we've been one of the largest roasters in the area for 30 years, and so we bring that experience to the small batch roasting we do through Waterfront.” With over a century of coffee experience in Bob's family, he was destined to enter the business. His knowledge, passed down from his father in sourcing, roasting, blending and grinding premium coffee has served Empire and now Waterfront Roasters well. In fact Bob's grandfather even sold coffee out of a cart in the early 1900's.
As one of the leading coffee distributors Waterfront and Empire had only previously provided OCS (Office Coffee Service) companies, restaurants, offices and businesses a select group of Single Origin, Signature Blends, and Dessert Coffees. Now with this new site they've opened themselves up to the public and are providing their expertly roasted coffees one bag at a time, all at wholesale prices with NO minimums.
“It's funny, we've been behind-the-scenes for so many years as a private label company, roasting for some of the largest and most demanding OCS companies out there, it's exciting to now actually see our own packaging on shelves and to hear from people how much they're enjoying it, that's pretty great,” says Todd Good, Head of Operations.
By using a roasting technique called the BAR (Blend After Roasting) method, Waterfront and Empire are able to maintain a level of consistency that is required in both large and small batch roasting. It's because of this consistent adherence to quality that many of their customers have been with them for over 30 years. Bob mentions that “without consistency, you're nothing. You need to be able to produce a coffee, either as a Single Origin or one of our Signature Blends, that tastes the same today as it did last month. What's difficult about that is adjusting for the varying flavor profiles that are inherent in different lots of coffee. Not every lot of one particular coffee is the same and you have to know how to adjust blends and roast profiles to maintain a flavor that your customer has staked his business on.”
