Now you can determine which type of PPE is the most Suitable
Now you can determine which type of PPE is the most Suitable
It is vital that workers understand the importance of PPE. But not every type of PPE may be suitable in every industry. For instance, hard hats are usually worn at construction sites and not within an office premise.

Yes! There are a wide variety of PPE and they have primarily been designed and developed to guard workers against any type of risk that may be present in the workplace. Wherein, the risk involved, can be anything from falling debris to an electric shock.
Personal Protective Equipment, is defined in the Regulations as, ‘all equipment which is intended to be worn or held by a person at work and which protects him against one or more risks to his health or safety’, for example eye protection, high visibility clothing, safety helmets, gloves, safety footwear and safety harnesses.
If you want to wear the most suitable type of PPE, then you need to start off, by carefully considering the different hazards in the workplace. Ask your supplier for advice, on the different types of PPE that are available and how suitable they are for different tasks. Another useful source of information are the Hazwoper Safety Training Courses.
Consider the following options, when assessing whether a particular type of PPE is suitable or not:
1.Is it suitable for the risks that are involved and the conditions at the place where exposure to the risk may occur? For example, eye protection designed for providing protection against agricultural pesticides will not offer adequate face protection for someone who is using an angle grinder to cut stone or steel.
2.Does it prevent, reduce or adequately control the risks involved without increasing the overall level of risk?
3.Can it be adjusted to fit the wearer correctly? Or does it hamper his mobility?
4.Has the state of health of those who will be wearing it been taken into account?
5.What are the needs of the job and the demands it places on the wearer? For example, the physical effort required to do the job, the length of time the PPE needs to be worn and the requirements for visibility and communication.
