Foreign entrepreneurs who have just incorporated a company in Singapore may apply for an employment pass if they wish to move into the country. The same goes for corporations that are looking to relocate staff such as managing directors and management staff to run their operations.
The country's Ministry of Manpower grants Employment Passes that have a validity of 1 or 2 years. Employment Passes are eligible for renewal as long as its holder remains employed in the country. An Employment Pass offers a number of benefits such as being able to travel in and out of Singapore with minimum hassle when passing through immigration. In addition, Employment Pass holders are also eligible for permanent residency in the country.
To become eligible for an Employment Pass, an applicant must have:
• a minimum fixed monthly salary of S$2,500
• a recognized educational diploma/degree from a reputable university
• professional qualifications
• specialist skills
• work-related experience
According to business registration specialist Rikvin, the Ministry of Manpower evaluates applicants based on their merits. Other factors that are considered are an applicant's salary, age, citizenship, roles and responsibility within the company, the reputation of the employer and the company's paid up capital.
Employment Passes have three categories, namely P1, P2 and Q1 passes. P Passes are for foreigners seeking, executive, managerial and specialist jobs. P1 Passes are given to applicants that earn a fixed monthly salary of more than S$7,000. P2 Passes, on the other hand, are for applicants that earn a fixed monthly salary of more than $3,500 but less than S$7,000. Applicant for the pass must have recognized qualifications. Q1 Passes are for applicants that earn a fixed monthly salary of more than S$2,500. The applicant must also possess recognized qualifications.
