Local companies should have more say in Nigeria’s Oil and Gas resources

OilPro Oil and Gas Limited, an indigenous Nigeria Oil and Gas service provider operating at international standard, attended Nigeria's biggest and most prestigious oil and gas event held in Abuja (20-23rd, Feb 2012); and witnessed for the first time a huge shift in the country's Oil and Gas upstream sector where Indigenous companies are becoming major players in managing the country's Oil and Gas resources.
According to the Mr. Peter Eledan, Managing Director of OilPro Oil and Gas Limited, he stressed that even though more than 60 percent of the jobs / projects in the oil and gas sector are still carried out by foreign companies and technical partners, the local content policy of the government is gradually kicking in by improving the participation of indigenous companies in the oil and gas industry.
Speaking to the newsmen at the conference in Abuja, Mr. Eledan "urged the Federal government to create the right environment for new investments to prosper, bearing in mind the high level of insecurity that has affected the industry in modern time". He emphasized that the government should make funds available to aid Indigenous companies in the execution of major projects. This can only be achieved if the Federal Government allows Nigerian banks to provide adequate funds for local companies in order to compete in winning major oil and gas projects in the country. An increase in funding and local participation will expand job opportunities and increase national economic growth".
