Midwest Digital Systems of Kansas City, is soon to conclude the installation of a new video surveillance and door intercom system for the St. Joseph Missouri School District. The integrated security solution purchased by the school district uses a combination of video surveillance cameras and video door intercoms in 24 of the district's buildings to improve safety and security. The school district had specified Nuvico cameras and digital recorders to maintain compatibility within the district. Midwest Digital Systems helped the district with the configuration of a video door intercom system by Aiphone. Over 100 cameras made up this installation, most of which were exterior cameras capable of withstanding the elements. Midwest Digital Systems was awarded the contract from a total of five bidders on the project.

Many school districts around the country have recently focused their efforts and resources on providing the highest level of security and protection for those placed in their charge, children. The school district of St. Joseph Missouri came up with an extensive plan to equip all 24 of their school and administrative buildings with video surveillance and door intercoms.
The District specified the use of Nuvico analog cameras and Nuvico digital recorders to complement some existing systems already in place. To adequately cover all 24 buildings, the District specified over 100 cameras and over twenty digital recorders to provide adequate storage time and recorder redundancy. In this application, the District wished to cover many of the exterior areas around their buildings so most of the cameras installed by Midwest Digital Systems were built specifically for external applications, designed to withstand the harsh winters and simmering summers of the midwest.
Although the video camera system configuration was provided by the District, they requested assistance from the various bidders for the details of the door intercom systems. Midwest Digital Systems provided door intercom configurations based on the Aiphone Model JK platform. All 24 buildings had video door intercoms installed, where either a single or in some cases multiple doors would be equipped with a call station at the entrance and monitor stations were used by the staff to communicate with the visitors at the doors and allow entry.
After meeting with and receiving bids from five bidders, the St. Joseph Missouri School District awarded the contract to Midwest Digital Systems of Kansas City. The installation is due to be completed in February 2012.
