Michigan OWI Attorney Applauds Federal Distracted Driving Guidelines

Michigan DUI lawyer Joseph F. Awad has taken a special interest in guidelines that members of Washington have proposed to reduce the number of distracted drivers on the road. The federally proposed guidelines are being presented to the auto industry as a voluntary set of rules to follow. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, who put together the guidelines, claim that in 2010 3,000 people were killed in crashes where distracted driving was a factor.

Hopefully the automobile industry embraces these guidelines and in doing so greatly reduce unnecessary and tragic accidents."
A few of the guidelines, which were put together to curb this unnecessary loss of life, are as follows: Simplified vehicle-based communication systems which reduce the time a driver needs to use it, devices designed to require only one hand which don't require the driver to divert his/her eyes from the road for more than two seconds, and no unnecessary information in the driver's field of vision.
But it has been suggested that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration also draw up guidelines for after-market products and portable devices like tablet computers, navigation systems and voice activated controls.
