Renowned Business School of the region, School of Management Sciences (SMS), Varanasi completed its 15 years of existence on November 10, 2010. The Institution celebrated its 16th Foundation Day "Adharshila" amidst joyous fervor and competitive spirit with 18 teams participating in the day long competitive events covering three event search in academic and cultural arenas. A traditional 'puja' was performed at the Campus inthe early morning hours before the arrival of Dr. Rakesh Dhar Tripathi, Hon'ble Minister for Higher Education, Uttar Pradesh Government, who stepped in the SMS campus to grace the occasion as its Chief Guest. Inaugurating the day-long event "Adharshila 2010" at SMS Campus, he exhorted the students to develop their qualifications, potential and talent in order to be present at the frontline of the society and the nation. He also stressed on the importance of friendship which takes people to heights in their life.
He congratulated the SMS family for completing 15 years of imparting professional education in this part of the country. He hoped that the Institution would continue to charm people across the global level through the initial values on which it was established. Commenting on the onslaught of globalisation, he said that money is not everything in life, family and traditional values should also be givenduepriority.Itwillhelpoursocietygoahead.
The Guest of Honour, Prof. Awadh Ram (Vice Chancellor, Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth) in his address talked about the present condition of the higher educational scenario in the country and said that today we have to harp on the quality factor in education which gets governed by the infrastructure of the institution, qualified and experienced faculty and good transparent governance. He congratulated SMS for possesing all these qualities which has made it grow by leaps and bounds in just15yearstime.Welcoming the Guests to the function, the Director of SMS, Varanasi, Prof. P. N. Jha said that it is a momentous occasion for the entire SMS family to have covered a gracious sojourn of fifteen years in which the institution developed itself as one of the leading centres of Management and Computer education in the country only due to the well wishes of all its stake holders from time to time owing to which two more of its branches shot up in the state capital Lucknow to impart Engineering education as well. He welcomed the Chief Guest to the Campus and hoped that under his stewardship, the higher educational sector would do extremely well in the state of Uttar Pradesh. He also highlighted briefly the historical background under which the SMS got cultivated. Later, the Executive Secretary of SMS Group of Institutions, Dr. M. P. Singh felicitated the Chief Guest with a shawl and memento. The CEO, SMS Group, Mr. Sharad Singh, Chairman, SMS Group, Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, Registrar, SMS Varanasi, Mr. Sanjay Gupta, faculty members, members of the administrative staff and students were present on the occasion. The inaugural function was coordinated by Dr. Meenakshi Singh while the voteofthankswaspresentedbyProf.K.M.Pandey.
The six events included the Business Quiz (sponsored by PT Education), Extempore (sponsored by Career Launcher) and Mock Parliament in the Academic arena; Antyakshari (sponsored by Infotech Education - Alagappa University), Solo Song (sponsored by British School of Languages) and Solo Dance (sponsored by Age Computers) in the Cultural arena. The teams participating included Faculty of Management Studies, BHU, Faculty of Commerce, BHU, Deptt. of Psychology - PMIR, BHU, Sunbeam College for Women, IMSSHEPA,RSMT-UP College, International Management Academy, MP Institute of Management & Technology apart from SMS (all from Varanasi), three departments (MBE, MBA, MFC) ofVBS Purvanchal University, Jaunpur, SMS Institute of Technology, SMS, Surya Group (allfrom Lucknow), Jhunjhunwala Business School, Faizabad, TERI PG College, Ghazipur andUnited InstituteofManagement,Allahabad.
Employees of SMS (teaching and non-teaching) who got felicitated from the management ofSMS Society included Mr. Alok Kumar (Reader-Management), Mr. Anand Prakash Dube (Reader-Computer Science) and Mr. Krishna Kant Bajpai (Reader- FIAS) from the teaching community while Er. P. B. Singh, Mr. Grijesh Singh Gautam, Mr. Ajay Kumar Singh and Mr. Mahendra Pratap Singh from the non-teaching community and Mr. Raj Kumar Sharma and Mr. Rajesh Gupta (Grade-IV staff) for giving their uninterrupted 'ten' years of service to the Institution.
In the Valedictory session, Prof K. P. Singh (Director, IT-BHU) was the Chief Guest.
