Cookies for Cancer is a novel cancer awareness initiative started on Facebook®, where people are asked to do something simple. “We are asking people to bake cookies on December 3rd and share them in the name of someone that they knew who died of cancer” states Doug McIsaac. This initiative was started last year on December 3rd by Pete Taylor.
Pete’s mother Betty Taylor, who died of cancer on December 3rd 2005, loved to bake. Pete learned to bake cookies and share them with people from her. He had quietly been making cookies in her memory since 2005, but last year he had a simple idea.
“I decided to tell my Facebook® friends what I was doing and to ask them to bake cookies in memory of someone in their lives who was touched by cancer” said Pete.
Pete was humbled by the response and the outpouring of emotion that he received in the hundreds of comments that he received on Facebook® and from the dozens of people who approached him in person with their stories.
This year Pete and his friend Doug are trying to get the word out everywhere and are asking people to “Blanket the world with cookies of December 3rd”
The Cookies for Cancer ( http://www.Facebook.com/CookiesForCancer ) initiative isn’t associated with a hospital or non-profit. It’s just a good idea, as Pete says “Every cookie is a hope, a wish and a prayer for a cure and who doesn’t like cookies?”
