On December 2nd, 5:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M., hundreds of local businesses and entrepreneurs will meet to trade gift certificates, products and services that they can use to give as Christmas presents to their friends, family, and clients.
“This is a great way for people to have a great holiday season and save money on gifts,” Tinamarie Fowler, ITEX Broker and Local Franchise Owner said. “People that attend the event are able to turn unused products or services into something their friends and family can enjoy, and often at very little cost to them. Some do it to save money. Others do it to buy things they couldn’t normally afford. Either way, it’s a great thing for local businesses to do to help each other do more business.”
The 8th annual Trade-a-thon, otherwise known as the Holiday Trade Show ( http://www.utah-barter.com ), is sponsored by ITEX in Northern Utah. The purpose of this show is to allow business owners to trade their product or service for Holiday gifts such as gift certificates, baskets, toys, artwork and other Christmas gifts to save cash on gifts for vendors, employees, clients, family and friends. In addition to multiple vendor tables, GaminRide will be offering video game tournaments for the kids. The event will be catered by long time ITEX member, Rodizio Grill. This event will be attended by a several hundred business owners in the northern Utah area.
ITEX is partnering this year with The Genesis Project church located at 270 E 12th Street in Ogden. The Genesis Project exists to engage Ogden through genuine relationships that will empower the church, strengthen families, and ultimately change the city of Ogden. The church congregation as well as the general public are invited to shop at this event.
About Barter Exchanges
Barter is nothing new but has found resurgence during these tough economic times. An story in the October 5, 2010 edition of FORTUNE magazine about the credit crunch explains what the best strategies are to overcome the current economic woes. The first of five recommendations is to join a barter network.
ITEX is the largest business-to-business barter company in North America with a local office right here in Ogden. Business owners join ITEX ( http://www.utah-barter.com ) to connect with a whole new customer base, save cash and keep business expenses low by trading for things like office rent, printing, advertising, supplies and even professional services like accounting, marketing and legal and save on household expenses by trading for car maintenance, landscaping and other household needs. Barter also gives members the chance to enjoy life more by purchasing cruises, resort stays, vacation packages, recreational gift certs and big-kid toys.
Examples of How Barter Has Helped Local Business Owners
Mike Leavitt, owner of Leavitt’s Mortuary, traded his services for a week stay in a private “Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous” house in Acapulco. Ivan Utrera, owner of Rodizio Grill, was able to place a full page ad in Business Week magazine using trade. He recently purchased a motorcycle with his trade also. The Children’s Treehouse Museum was able to trade memberships and day passes for a Yellowstone snowmobile vacation and some furniture which they auctioned for cash in their annual fundraiser netting them over $2,000 in cash.
