Today Dynamsoft announced the release of SourceAnywhere for VSS 6.1, a Visual SourceSafe (VSS) internet access solution recommended by Microsoft.
SourceAnywhere for VSS is designed for in client-server architecture and works as an add-in to eliminate SourceSafe problems, such as database corruption, file system security issue, VSS slow over internet and lack of cross-platform access. It provides fast, reliable and secure internet access to VSS 6.0 and VSS 2005.
On top of compression and delta transfer technologies to speed up the VSS remote performance, SourceAnywhere for VSS utilizes a unique mechanism -- Cache Server. The caching server runs on the remote team's side and stores files which are transferred through it. When a remote client requests for a file, the Cache Server can transfer the file to the client directly (if the file is cached) without relaying the request on to the remote SourceAnywhere for VSS Server. This way, the response to client's request is much faster.

The new release is even faster than ever. With the ZIP compression technique applied on the network layer, the transmission performance is greatly enhanced. According to the in-house test, speed of the most used version control operations, such as Add, Get, Check-out, Check-in, is increased by 10%~20%. The improvement is greater for transmission-intensive tasks, such as Show History.
SourceAnywhere for VSS provides Java Client for cross-platform access. SDK and Command Line Client are also available for use in auto scripts.
