When asked, one of the creators of the website told us that "In order to reach out, and have a greater level of interactivity with out audience, we are going to be releasing this game. After all, what better way is there to build a relationship with them then to engage them in an activity that they all love taking part in anyway?"But, what will make this website any different from other websites offering such a game? After all, what could possibly be different?The response that came back to us was simple and straight to the point.
"Yes, many websites do have this game set up on their site. But there are so many avenues in which they are lacking. We will be very frank. We are a company that wants to promote, but at the same time make a living of it. This game is part of our strategy to reach out to our audience. At this stage, it may only be a flash game. But believe me. Soon enough, we will convert it to something much more then that."Naturally, we were curious with what he had to say, so we probed him further.
"We want to create opportunities for conversation between us and our audience, and also amongst the audience itself. We don't plan on throwing random products at them. We are truly passionate about this game, so we're only going to promote stuff that they tell us they find valuable. And we are going to find out what they find valuable by doing the simplest thing in the book - asking them."He also went on to inform us that in the future, not only will they be upgrading the game from a mere flash version, they will be holding competitions with attractive prizes.
We also decided to conduct our own research, so we checked out what other websites have been offering. A quick search showed us that there are well established sites out there that allow users to play the game against each other. And competitions are held too. However, unlike Yahtzee-Online.com, we noticed that they are not as concentrated.Yahoo! Games for instance allows you to play this game against any person around the world. However, it is not focus on Yahtzee alone. It hosts a few hundred games in fact. This, as has argued, dilutes the whole experience. We were given an analogy.
"If you were to make lemonade, the more water you put, the more diluted it becomes, hence ruining the entire experience of drinking the lemonade."After conversing with the guys behind this website, it has become evident that they are out to put Yahtzee back into the limelight it once enjoyed in its glory days a few decades ago.The question that now remains it be answered is will Yahtzee-Online succeed in the quest? Or will it falter along the way? Only time will tell.
