Following a dramatic end to 24 years of losing on Aussie soil, the England team lifted the Ashes last week and took another giant step closer to becoming the best cricket team in the world. Their next great challenge is the Cricket World Cup.
Supporters can follow England on Cricket World Cup Tours, which promises to be special based on the recent Ashes performance.
Gullivers Sports Travel has been arranging Ashes Tours since 1982 but Managing Director John Davison felt this recent one was different and said: “I was there in 1986/87 but this one was a bit more special. This was a comprehensive Ashes Series victory and England totally outplayed Australia in all departments.”
The 3-1 win in Australia was well deserved not only for the players but for the dedicated supporters that travelled to the other side of the world to cheer them on. The atmosphere running through the stands was electric throughout the Series and didn’t subside until the urn was firmly in Andrew Strauss’s hands.
Already ICC World T20 Champions, the next big challenge for the England team is the ICC Cricket World Cup in February. Hailed as ‘The Cup That Counts’, the team and the fans go into the tournament with high expectations.
John Davison said: “England really are a great unit both on and off the field and have made another couple of strides to becoming the best cricket team in the world in all forms of the game.”
The ICC Cricket World Cup is the biggest prize in the sport, held over 43 days with 14 countries competing for the title. Not only do fans have the chance to watch the excitement on the field but it is also the perfect time to experience the world’s most colourful, vibrant and cricket crazy countries; India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
For those fans that missed the action in the West Indies at the ICC World Twenty20 or the Ashes in Australia, there is still time to support the team at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
