What do Susan Boyle, The Pet Shop Boys, Waitrose Supermarket chain and Google all have in common? The answer is - QR CODES. These developments come from years of research and represents the latest on Mobile marketing.
Soon you will soon see strange looking black & white squares popping up all over town! That is according to a company boss of a new Portsmourth based web marketing ( http://localizer.biz ) firm. He goes on to explain, and I quote "These 'dotty' looking squares are really just barcodes, but they are barcodes on steroids!".
Apparently these barcodes are being most widely used in the USA and the Far East and many consumers are benefitting and enjoying using them. Shopsavvy.com have been supporting them for over a year right now. Susan Boyle & The Pet Shop Boys, amongst others, are using them. Google themselves have mailed over 190,000 individualised QR codes out to local business owners for them to display in their shop doorways and windows. The list goes on.
Simply put, if you have a smartphone, you are in on the QR code revolution. All you do is download a free QR code reader app and start scanning whenever you see one.
It is all automatic. You simply photograph a QR code and the app on your smartphone will interpret the information and act on it. It can take you to a web page, dial a freephone number, send a text message, take you to someones facebook page, send a Twitter, take you to an order page, phone a restaurant, download their menu for you or bring up a local map. I think you get the picture.

On a more serious side, QR codes are very user friendly and can represent big business. This really all stems from the advance of smartphones. It seems that the local mobile marketing revolution is just beginning. There is little doubt that developments such as QR Codes will be one of the catalysts spurring that revolution on.
Now that anybody can create their own QR codes online for free, download them, print them out, share them in a myriad of technological and real world ways, the possibilities for fun and practical uses are endless.
