B-schools across the country are in no mood to accept AICTE’s rejection of their demands, which was communicated during the meeting of AIMS and EPSI representatives with the Chairman of AICTE on 17 & 18 January, 2011 in New Delhi.
According to AIMS & EPSI, AICTE has refused to withdraw the notification. This response has paved the way for stronger collective action by the B-schools against AICTE. The B-schools will meet to hold discussions and seriously evaluate seeking legal redressal in this matter. Meanwhile, strong reactions are continuing to pour in from experts and educators.
More reactions: “This is now a Battle!”
Following AICTE’s rejection of B-schools’ demands, MBAUniverse.com spoke to eminent management educators to gauge their reaction to this move. The overall response indicates that AICTE has not shown any interest in discussing the matter with the B-schools. Eminent educators view this non-responsive stand of the AICTE as a beginning of a real battle between B-schools and the AICTE.
" The AICTE notification has no rationale, Dialogue with the MHRD is essential: Dr. Bakul H. Dholakia, Former Director IIMA & Director, AIIM "
Padma Shri Dr. Bakul H. Dholakia, former director IIM Ahmedabad and Director, AIIM, told MBAUniverse.com, “Any policy action requires some rationale. The AICTE notification has no such rationale. It will destroy the national character of management education in the country. Also, the degree of control on PG education cannot be on par with that of under graduate education. This problem is serious and we must solve it soon.”
" B-schools will have no choice but to consider legal action and exert political pressure: Prof. Pritam Singh, MDI "
Commenting on the mood of B-schools after the AICTE’s rejection of their demands, Padma Shri Prof. Pritam Singh, Professor Emeritus, MDI Gurgaon said, “AICTE’s rejection is unfortunate, hasty and ill-considered. This is now a battle because of the AICTE’s non-listening stand. AICTE has shown they are not even willing to understand or discuss the concerns of B-schools. B-schools are very agitated. AICTE ‘s indifference is irking B-schools.”
" B-schools cannot accept a standardized model curriculum: Prof. M.R. Rao, Dean Emeritus & Professor, Indian School of Business "
Reacting strongly, Prof. M.R. Rao, Dean Emeritus & Professor, Indian School of Business termed the provisions of the AICTE notification as “unbelievable” and said, “It shows lack of understanding. AICTE will make us go backward with such provisions. B-schools cannot accept a standardized model curriculum. It will hamper quality and innovation in management education.”
