There happens to be no medical term for a fear of driving, unlike many other common fears that people are afflicted with.
Fear of driving can mean anything avoiding a particular street or junction each day to those who cannot turn left or right, ore even those with practical things they simply won't do within the car such as opening a door.
Many people won't drive on the motorway, drive around roundabouts or drive up narrow streets.
A new book by Joanne Mallon called How to Overcome Fear of Driving has just been published, and she says that the number of people with a driving fear is unknown as many won't admit it and feel that they are unique, when in fact there are many people who have this fear of driving.
any people are scared of driving due to incidents that have happened in the past and affected how they now feel about driving in a vehicle or on a motorway.

A fear of driving is actually quite common and a previous experience is often the root cause of a phobia of driving. Many people have an incident that even though may not result in serious injury can have a shock factor and lasting negative effect on how they feel about being on the roads. People feel they have no control and cannot be persuaded to get into a car after one of these incidents.
