Dr. Orth begins an appointment for a crown, inlay, or onlay by first examining the tooth to discover the most fitting restoration to use. A local anesthetic is used before preparing the tooth (air abrasion or some other method may be used in removing a damaged tooth structure if needed). Following this, Dr. Orth takes an optical impression of the tooth, avoiding the need for messy, unwanted trays.
This is where CEREC® comes in. The software creates a 3D, digital model of the tooth that appears on a computer screen, allowing patients to easily visualize their restoration. Dr. Orth will then custom-craft the restoration, with the crown or veneer ready in just 10 to 20 minutes. Once the restoration has been fabricated, it is then placed and bonded into place.
