Long Island Plastic Surgeon Dr. Mark Epstein has perfected two different labiaplasty techniques to optimize comfort and reduce recovery time for women.
Labiaplasty is the reduction of the female labia minor to improve appearance, reduce or eliminate pain during sex or to eliminate discomfort from tight clothing.
"Often labiaplasty patients are concerned with their genitalia, specifically the size of the labia minora," says Dr. Epstein of the sensitive surgery. Labiaplasty can be performed for aesthetic reasons: to boost confidence or for functional reasons: enlarged labia minora can make intercourse uncomfortable, or even painful. In some cases clothing can be uncomfortable or not fit correctly because of it.
Enlarged labia minora is sometimes called labial hypertrophy—and while there is no danger associated with the condition it can cause mild to severe discomfort depending. Some women are born with enlarged labia, others develop it during puberty. Regular aging or childbirth can also affect the size of the labia.
Labiaplasty involves reshaping one or both labia so they are smaller in size. This type of surgery should be done by a gynecologic surgeon who has expertise with this type of procedure.
