Blood clots that are close to the brain are undoubtedly dangerous. Known as subdural hematomas, these clots form under the protective layer of the brain (the dura) and may cause life-threatening complications if they compress the brain tissue. Clots can be caused by a variety of factors, the most common of which include old age, use of anticoagulant medications, excessive alcohol consumption, and repetitive injuries to the head.
