New Jersey's Active Orthopedics and Sports Medicine offers PRP, or platelet-rich plasma injections to help stimulate healing in injured tissues and joints. PRP is an autologous blood concentrate which harnesses the power of platelets to encourage and enhance healing.

Human platelets are rich in connective tissue growth factors. By injecting these growth factors into damaged ligaments and tendons repair is stimulated, according to Dr. Michael Gross, board certified orthopedic surgeon.

Dr. Gross also says that PRP treatments can benefit rotator cuff injury sufferers, as well as those suffering from shoulder pain, tennis and golfer elbow, hamstring and hip strains, knee sprains, ankle sprains, Achilles tendinosis, plantar fasciitis and patellofemoral syndrome and patellar tendinosis.

The process of separating the PRP for patient begins in the office, where the blood is drawn and then separated for platelets in a centrifuge. While the blood is being separated the area is numbed and prepared for injection. Once both are ready the injection is given. The entire process takes less than an hour.

Studies suggest that the success rate lies somewhere in the 80-85 percent range. The patients that do experience relief of pain find it is generally permanent.

If you think you could benefit from PRP injections or the care and expertise of Active Orthopedic visit www.activeorthopedic.com or contact one of the offices directly.
