Aging is inevitable, but everyone still wants to age confidently and gracefully, without visible signs of aging on their face or neck. For many patients, the best solution may be a face and neck lift. New York City plastic surgeon Dr. Robert Guida recently sat down to discuss the benefits of face and neck lift surgery.
"Face and neck lift operations work well for both men and women," says Dr. Guida, "These procedures are ideal for people who are looking to recapture a more youthful, attractive appearance. Most of my patients who seek this type of procedure are simply experiencing common signs of aging, such as displaced fat around the face or neck, vertical folds on their chin, or deep wrinkles beneath their eyes. They want to improve their overall facial features, not change them completely."
Dr. Guida typically performs a "deep plane" two-layer face and neck lift, a method of combining a neck lift with both a lower and mid-face lift in one procedure. This practice helps define the jaw line, lift the cheeks, and tighten the loose skin on the face and neck.
"This type of procedure gives the patient longer-lasting, natural-looking results," Dr. Guida explains, "Many times, though, patients have their own ideas of what areas should be focused on during surgery. Some want to focus on their neck more than their jaw line. This is not a 'one-size-fits-all' kind of surgery. Each procedure is unique, and can easily be customized to fit the patient's individual desires or needs."
Dr. Guida's attentive patient care also extends after surgery. He often visits with patients the day after their surgery, to determine how he can give his patients the best recovery period possible. "Most patients are fully recovered and back to their normal routine within two weeks," says Dr. Guida, "While recovering, some may experience some swelling or bruising, which is normal. In some cases, I will prescribe medications or recommend supplements, which may be necessary to ease a patient's post-surgery pain."

Dr. Robert Guida is a highly respected facial plastic surgeon specializing in facial plastic surgery and nasal surgery. Double board-certified, Dr. Guida earned his medical degree at Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
