Future Electronics, a global leading distributor of electronic components, has added another how-to video to its series on selecting the best electronic components for various applications. "How to Select the Right Power Relay for Your Application" has been launched, along with many more helpful tutorials offered through the company's YouTube channel.

A power relay is a switch which uses an electromagnet coil in order to close or open a circuit. Power relays also contain an armature, a spring and one or several contacts.

If the power relay is designed to normally be open, when power is applied, the electromagnet attracts the armature, which is then pulled in the coil's direction until it reaches a contact, therefore closing the circuit. If the relay is designed to be normally closed, the electromagnetic coil pulls the armature away from the contact, therefore opening the circuit.

Power relays are used for many different applications, including automotive electronics, audio amplification, telephone systems, home appliances and vending machines. Power relays are used for switching a wide variety of currents for applications including everything from lighting control to industrial sensors.

Future Electronics stocks many of the most common types of power relays, categorized by Contact Form, Maximum Contact Current, Nominal Coil Voltage, Termination Style and packaging type. As demonstrated in the video, the parametric filters on the company's website can help refine search results depending on the required specifications.
