Over time, exposure to sun, gravity, and daily stress can take a toll on one's appearance, especially within the face and neck areas. Rhytidectomy (better known as a "facelift") can help offset visible signs of aging, by reducing and eliminating the appearance of deep creases around the mouth, and loose skin on the neck area.
Dr. Kamal Sawan, of Juveniss Plastic Surgery in Oklahoma, offers a facelift technique, which produces dramatic, yet natural-looking, results for patients who want to diminish the appearance of deep creases, and sagging, loose skin. Dr. Sawan says the procedure is ideal for patients who want to improve visible signs of aging.
According to Dr. Sawan, several incision techniques are commonly used for a facelift. A traditional or "full" facelift is used to rejuvenate the face, jowls, and neck. Using this method, the incision begins at the temples, and travels down to the front of the ear, around the earlobe, and behind the ear to the lower scalp at the hairline. A second facelift technique is a Limited-Incision Facelift, which involves making incisions around the eyes and mouth. Short incisions will be made at the temples, along the hairline and the contours of the front of the ear, and possibly in the lower eyelids and under the neck. A Limited-Incision Facelift is ideal for patients who have severe neck laxity, or a significant loss of cheek volume. Both of these methods will require incisions to be closed with stitches, although scars will be hidden in the hairline and natural contours of the face.
Dr. Sawan explains that facelifts are typically inpatient procedures, performed in either a surgery center or hospital, under general anesthesia. The procedure will take about three to five hours to complete, and will usually require an overnight stay. While full recovery from the procedure may take several weeks, patients will be left with a natural, rejuvenated look.
Dr. Sawan says that the best candidates for a facelift are men and women who are in generally good health, and want to improve their appearance, while not dramatically altering their looks. Dr. Sawan adds that, while a facelift can significantly improve a patient's appearance, it cannot stop the aging process, so patients must have realistic expectations about what the surgery can help them achieve.
Dr. Sawan offers life-changing cosmetic surgery procedures, including body lifts, breast augmentation and reduction, as well as non-surgical procedures such as skin resurfacing and BOTOX Cosmetic.
