Manchester demolition company, Complete Demolition, has announced that they will be diverting 100% of their local demolition waste away from landfill.
The company, based close to the city centre, will become the first in the area to recycle 100% of local demolition waste.
Complete Demolition is a business that has always been conscious of its environmental and social responsibilities. Health, Safety & Environmental Director Lynda Robinson, commented, “Already obtaining high recycling figures, we have been exploring ways to increase recycling rates further to see if it is possible to achieve ‘nil landfill’.” She continued, “Currently the majority of our demolition waste is recycled; bricks, wood, metal, plasterboards for instance are easily segregated on site, ready to be reused or recycled. The difficulty is recycling the small elements of demolition debris or mixed waste.”
As the only company of its kind in the North West, the newly formed ‘Waste Exchange’ is capable of converting ‘residue’ waste, which would have been destined for landfill, into high-quality flock and biomass fuel. These secondary fuels will then be used to power cement kilns.
Explaining the new alliance, Lynda stated that, “we are extremely excited about working with The Waste Exchange, they provide an ideal solution for recycling our demolition waste.” She then added, “As well as helping Complete Demolition reach its target of ‘nil landfill’ , The Waste Exchange is helping to facilitate a significant reduction in the reliance on CO2 producing fossil fuels for the future.”
Working for major construction companies and a number of public sector authorities, Complete Demolition has already obtained positive feedback from customers about their latest plans. Lynda commented, “By becoming ‘nil landfill’ on a number of our local sites, our customers are pleased that we are continuing to demonstrate our commitment to the environment. We are now looking forward to improving recycling rates for everyone.”
Plans are now in place for the first batch of construction waste to be 100% recycled as soon as possible. The Waste Exchange’s £multi-million site is scheduled to open in Middleton, Manchester next month.
To overcome this problem, Complete Demolition have approached secondary fuel producer, The Waste Exchange - who have developed the perfect solution for recycling 100% of demolition waste.
