1. To be legal! Under the Tax Services Act 2009, the FNS40210 Certificate IV in Bookkeeping is set to become the minimum formal education requirement for registered BAS (Business Activity Statement) agents. If you are a contract bookkeeper or an employee performing bookkeeping tasks you must attain this qualification by 2012.
The new legislation came into effect in March 2010 but a transition period has been granted until February 2012. After 2012 all Bookkeepers must hold this minimum formal qualification.
2 To kickstart a career as a BAS Agent. By using a BAS Agent taxpayers are protected by “safe harbour provisions” which remove penalties for any misstatement or late lodgement due to mistakes an agent may make in the course of their work. These safe harbour provisions are not available to those who do not use a BAS Agent to process their BAS.
3 To kickstart a career in bookkeeping. The Certificate IV in Bookkeeping covers computerised accounting systems, completing BAS and other financial statements, developing bookkeeping management systems, and general administration.
The Certificate IV in Bookkeeping is designed to give the bookkeeping industry a minimum educational qualification. By attaining this qualification you will be qualified to work in a finance/accounts department of almost any industry. Or you may want to set up your own business and work as a contract bookkeeping for small to medium sized business. There are well over a million small businesses in Australia who need qualified people to manage and maintain their accounts. Contract bookkeepers can enjoy the benefits of self-employment such as flexible working hours and conditions and choosing your customers.
4 To kickstart a career in Accounting. You may choose to stay in bookkeeping or pursue a career in Accounting. This qualification will give you advanced standing in the FNS50210 Diploma of Accounting and selected Diploma qualifications in the FNS10 Financial Services Training Package.
