The Dead Sea Is Drying Up- Can this ecological disaster be averted?
The Dead Sea's water level has dropped in the last 80 years (since the measuring started) a staggering 26 meters (85 feet), a real concern has been awakened among the environmental groups in Israel, the most alarming fact is that the major water level decrease has accrued only since the 1970's, a 20 meters (65 feet) decrease in water level.

"The Sea's water level has been falling dramatically in the last several decades. The worst of it only in the last several years, in the last month the Dead Sea's water level has decreased by 15 centimeters (5.9 inches)... "
The Dead Sea has been around for thousands of years, but it might not be around for much longer if drastic measures are not taken into effect, the Sea's water level has been falling dramatically in the last several decades.
The worst of it only in the last several years, in the last month the Dead Sea's water level has decreased by 15 centimeters (5.9 inches), not only that- in the last few years the water level has been dropping consistently by 1 meter (3.3 feet) every year.
The Dead Sea is a unique ecological environment which doesn't exist anywhere else in the world, the Sea's water contain many minerals and substances that are used in scientific research, specifically the Dead Sea is renowned for its healing capabilities for an array of medical conditions, especially skin problems.

Surely Global warming is one of the causes of this problem, but human intervention such as the "Dganya Dam" which prevents the Jordan River's water from reaching the Dead Sea or the Dead Sea Chemical Industries which mine the Dead Sea's minerals and all the while drying large parts of the Sea itself, definitely are a major cause of this ecological disaster waiting to happen.
In the last few years several solutions were offered to the Israeli and Jordanian governments, including building a water canal from the Mediterranean Sea or from the Red Sea which will transfer water to the Dead Sea and restore its water level, unfortunately all of these initiatives are currently in bureaucratic and financial holdbacks, not to mention the fact that these ideas were not researched and environmental organizations are opposed due to the fact that no one know how these actions will affect the fragile ecological balance of the Dead Sea.
