Magical holidays in Rethymnon Crete
Magical holidays in Rethymnon Crete
A short drive out of Rethymnon into the hills behind the town will bring you to the small village of Atsipopoulo, where this lovely group of 10 apartments and 4 studios have been built, next to an old 17th - century Venetian house and a beautiful church.

Crete, Greece - January 29, 2011 -- The tiled courtyard is filled with trees and flowers and has a beautiful swimming pool in the centre, with deckchairs arranged around it. There is also a communal roof terrace, shaded with a vine-covered trellis, where you can take in the vista over the rooftops of the village and countryside to the sea below.
The apartments are mostly arranged over two floors with a lovely spiral staircase connecting the floors, and are decorated with colourful prints on the wall, wicker furniture, pretty soft furnishings and lovely pieces of traditional Cretan pottery are scattered artfully about and with air-conditioning, the interiors are light and airy.
This resort is built on a small development overlooking olive groves, grape yards and the distant mountains and is within walking distance of an attractive Cretan village and close to the main coastal highway. Heraklion airport only 50 minutes drive away. The nearest beach would be at the village of Panormo with its attractive fishing harbour and variety of tavernas.
This resort is built from natural stone by artisans who are experts in buildings of this type. The stonework is beautifully dressed and fully treated for moisture resistance. The mortar used in the construction also has a moisture inhibitor. The stonework is a refreshing change from the more modern type of construction now widely available in Crete and has a completely different look and feel. Offering cool interiors during the hot summer months, and a wonderful traditional feeling.
Cretan villages are pleasing to the eye and the soul. Stone walls curve and lean comfortably into the contours of the land as do the flat-roofed white cottages while domed churches dominate the highest point.
Winding lanes and stone steps lead outwards from the village square shaded by a spreading plane tree. There is always a “kafenion” where old men sit on rickety chairs discussing politics, the olive crop or the lateness of the rains to the sound of gushing water, a mountain spring leaping from the open mouths of Venetian stone lions.
